When moving into a student property, it's important to make sure that you're choosing an area that is best suited to you, as well as finding somewhere that fits into your budget.
Moving to a new area can be daunting, especially if you're new to the city or are moving in with people you don't know. We have put together an area guide for the Bingley area of Leeds, so that you can get to know what's going on and familiarise yourself with the area before you move into your student property.
Bingley is situated north of Bradford in West Yorkshire. It is a small market town laced with hidden gems, and quaint cottages. It can be the ideal location for your student accommodation if you're looking for something a little further afield, quieter than some of the other popular student locations, and still within a good distance for travelling to your campus.
There is a railway network that runs directly through Bingley, on the Airedale Line (part of the Metro). The train is the easiest and quickest route into Leeds from Bingley, taking between 20-30 mins, with regularly running times.
There are regular buses than run from different areas within Bingley, so you can easily travel to Leeds, Bradford, and all other surrounding areas. You can find a full list of buses and bus timetables here.
If you prefer to travel by car, Bingley is situated in an area with great links to major roads. It can take around 30-40 minutes to drive into Leeds from Bingley, and around 15-20 minutes to drive into Bradford.
Bingley is most known for the Bingley Music Live in Myrtle Park, which is held at the end of August each year, and is meant to provide an affordable event with high quality music and bands. This was started in 2007, and has since evolved into a music festival playing a range of live music including rock, indie, alternative, and pop. It has seen artists perform such as Calvin Harris, The Zutons, Seasick Steve, and Professor Green.
Each year Bingley also hosts the Bingley Show in Myrtle Park, which focuses on the local agricultural community.
Bingley is home to the St Ives Country Park, which is a collection of woodland areas, open moors, a wildflower meadow, and Coppice pond where you can watch and feed the ducks. With public footpaths throughout, St Ives is great for a long weekend walk.
If you're looking for a more relaxed evening out, rather than a night of drinking, Bingley has a thriving theatre, which stages around 8 productions per year, as well as social events including themed parties.
If you fancy a walk down the canal, make sure to stop by the Bingley Five Rise Lock staircase - a grade I listed staircase, which is also the steepest lock staircase in Britain. Here you will also find a lovely cafe, converted from an old stable block, which provides local ice cream, Yorkshire tea (of course), a wonderful breakfast, as well as an array of other quality food and drinks, to refuel after a nice long walk.
Bingley offers a range of student property, available to suit all requirements and budgets, so if you think Bingley might be the perfect location for your next student year, don't hesitate to get in touch with Spencer Properties to discuss your options today.
